UEFI Forum Announces Availability of the Updated ACPI 6.4 Specification

The open specification offers updated device configuration and power management, allowing for the advancement of new hardware and standards.

Beaverton, Ore.—January 25, 2021The UEFI Forum today announced the release of the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) 6.4 specification. ACPI is the most widely used standard runtime interface between Operating Systems and platform firmware/hardware. It is also the most established standard for platforms to communicate their as-built hardware design and configuration to software.

“Given the UEFI Forum’s commitment to standards and open interfaces between Operating Systems and Platform Firmware, we are pleased to introduce the new ACPI 6.4 specification,” said Mark Doran, UEFI Forum President. “The ACPI 6.4 specification continues our work to keep boot and power management standards on the pace as a great springboard for innovation in many fast evolving technology ecosystems.”

The ACPI 6.4 Specification Highlights

  • Prioritization of the development of open standards
  • Continued adaptation to emerging heterogeneous computing and interconnect technologies such as CXL and USB4
  • Integration with RPMT, included in the Platform Runtime Mechanism (PRM) specification
  • Inclusion of Arm ACPI tables reservations: MPAM, AEST
  • Increased platform reliability and hardware features including Battery Charge Limiting (BCL) model and support of the CXL 2.0 specification and Heterogeneous Memory Types
